This post to Reddit's r/AmITheAsshole community by u/Throwawaygivings has just about everything: malicious compliance, petty revenge, and sheer ingenuity wrapped into one.
OP said her boyfriend's family has been rude to her since they started dating and his mom would routinely call her by the boyfriend's ex's name just to be petty. When the boyfriend told her to stop that, she started calling OP the wrong name — and other members of the family joined in, frequently calling her Janet, for example. When someone suggested that "Janet" make the Thanksgiving turkey, OP readily agreed. On Thanksgiving, though, she showed up empty-handed and told them she was under the impression someone named Janet was making the turkey.
Rumor has it that they're still waiting for Janet to show up with that turkey. If this family wanted to trust the girlfriend to bring such an essential dish to their Thanksgiving festivities maybe they shouldn't have been such jerks.
The girlfriend is definitely the AH here but she's an AH who is a hero to us all. Hopefully, her next boyfriend's family treats her with a little more respect.
